Reading Reviews

I'm not doing so well on updating my bloggy recently. Boo!

Anyways, I've been reading a ton. I have been checking them out at the library. The problem is because I don't own them I can't mark in them and write notes. It's kind of driving me insane! Ha. At least I know which books I want to own instead of just like a one time read. Soooo, here are my thoughts about the books I have recently read in the last month or so.

  • The Hunger Games- Suzanne Collins
Everyone basically knows what this book series is about so I won't give a summary. I know there is a huge hype right now about this series and honestly I think that's part of the reason why I didn't like it that much. (This is where everyone will boo and hiss) Don't get me wrong, it was very well written. It is a very unique story that definitely draws you in. I think the movie is going to be good too. I'm interested to see how they will show different things involved in the story. Anyways, I think it was absolutely silly to write two more books that are along the same lines of the first one. One was enough. It wasn't a complete waste of time to read, because it was an easy and quick read. Also I did enjoy it, well more so appreciated it. Probably won't be reading it again though. Ha

  • Before I Go to Sleep- S. J. Watson

The cover looks kind of creepy huh? I enjoyed this book. I don't think there are many books I don't enjoy and get something from, but this was a step up from the normal. The story was crazy. I thought I had predicted the story, but it didn't turn out the way I expected. Anyways, this girl Christine has amnesia. Her case is pretty intense though. She wakes up every morning with a fresh new start, she doesn't remember the day before and nothing is familiar to her. Sometimes she wakes up and thinks she is a child and other times she wakes up and knows she's an adult. It seems that she has a good life and a wonderful husband that takes care of her. However, come to find out she isn't getting the full story. Memories fade in occasionally that leave her more confused than before. She starts to keep a journal and write down everything...whoa. I won't ruin it just in case you have the inkling to read it. It was a good read. Also a one time read, but still good. It came out June 2011.

  • Forget About It- Caprice Crane

First of all I really loved Caprice Crane's Stupid and Contagious book. I figured I would read some of her other books and see if I like them as much. This book was very interesting. This girl, Jordan, is kind of fed up with the way her life has turned out. At work her boss steals all her ideas, her family is kind of cruel to her, her boyfriend is a cheating jerk. She desperately wants a do-over. She ends up getting into a bike accident and fakes amnesia. (What's with me and the amnesia books?) She gets a chance to live her life the way she wants to. Well, things seem to be going better and she of course decides she needs to get her memory back and then another accident happens. This time leaving her with real amnesia. Really funny and kind of sad in my opinion. Plus she falls in love with Travis, the guy that hit her on her bike the first time around. What a charmer. It was really witty and I got sucked into this book. Mind you, there is some language in it.

  • The Lover's Dictionary- David Levithan
(The book won't center..how annoying.)

I need to buy this book. I know what you're thinking..lover's dictionary. It's not like that. Ha. It barely came out last year. It's a novel about love. As the author puts it "a story about love, in all its messy complicated reality." First of all, the way this book is written is brilliant. It is set up like a dictionary. Each page has a word and then a couple of paragraphs explaining the definition of the word in the love story. (I really wish I would have came up with the idea.) Plus, it's a super easy read. 200 pages with a couple of paragraphs on each page. I could have read it in like 2 hrs. The love story itself is kind of humorous. I can't relate to a lot of it, but some of it I can. The ups and downs of a relationship. I found myself laughing out loud at some things and going "aww" over others. Maybe it's because it's about love so naturally I love it. I found myself itching to mark in it, but it isn't mine. Here is a quote from one part I liked. The guy is watching his lady sleeping and his mind starts to wander about what it would be like to grow old together. "If this continues, if this goes on, then when I die,  your memories of me will be my greatest accomplishment. Your memories will be my most lasting impression." Adorable right? I'm a sap. Ha! I highly suggest this book.

I've read like 3 other books but they aren't even worth mentioning. Don't you hate that?

Currently I'm reading:
  • The Night Circus- Erin Morgenstern

I love this book. I'm only like halfway done and I know I'm going to buy this book also. It's a fascinating story. Again, very well written. One minute you're being told this story, another minute it's like you're in the story walking up to the circus for the first time, and the next it's like flashed to someone else's story. I personally love the aspect that I am going to the circus for the first time. Anyways, It's about this circus "Le Cirque des Reves" that appears our of no where. It is only open midnight to dawn. Eerily spooky and mystically entrancing. There is a duel between two magicians (Celia and Marco)....like real magicians, no tricks on the eyes or mirrors. They have been destined since childhood for this game. Well apparently they fall in love (I'm not there yet, but I read the book jacket.) and the show/game must go on. Sounds awesome right? It should totally be a movie, except I am afraid it wouldn't be portrayed as well. I definitely think you will enjoy this book. It has a little something for everyone it seems. And I just found out it came out last September. So also a new read.

I'm reading like 3 other books with this one but I'll talk about those later. In other news my box of books still hasn't arrived. It seems to be lost. Almost two months later. Stupid post office.

Happy March!
