I'm getting on this poetry kick, I forget how much I love poetry. So more of my work, that needs work. haha.
A Place I Recently Discovered
After Shel Silverstein’s Where the Sidewalk Ends
There is a place I recently discovered
Up in the mountains,
Beyond the known spaces
There, one beholds the breath-taking scenery
There the elements are endless
There I seem so small
Compared to the rest of this world.
Let us leave behind the worries of our problems
And the stresses that come from everyday life.
Up to the rushing water from the falls
We’ll climb that steep mountain and avoid the falling rocks
We can watch the steady rippling creek
At the place I recently discovered.
Yes, we’ll hike the steep mountain and avoid the falling rocks
We can watch the steady rippling creek
My friends beside me, and the fresh air around me, and we’ll be
At this place I recently discovered.
Well-Read
I found myself once more, in the place that I have been in many times before
Life had taken me for a turn, and a flip on the rollercoaster of trials
My stresses are at their very high, my to-do list has well over fifty things to do
At times like this, I reach for my old friend
He always knows exactly what I need and knows what to say
I get my step ladder and climb to the top blow off the dust that has settled
He sneezes in protest, from not being heard for so long
He has waited so patiently for my return
I hold him in my hands, they tremble with anticipation
My body is instantly filled with uplifting hope
I am once reunited with my ol’ pal
I run my fingers gently on the well worn spine
The pages are crinkled and yellowing with aging
He doesn’t lie flat anymore, he beckons me because he is about to burst open
I flip through the pages and smell the sweet memories
A flood of flashbacks run through my mind, oh the many times we have shared
Together
I see my scribbled handwriting covering every inch of the margins,
Notes to remember his everlasting, precious, and tender advice
He is old from time, his binding not what it once was
His sweet words in ink are starting to fade
But, still he is strong enough to pursue
And replay
He gathers me once again in his arms of love
Holds me tight and draws me in to tell me a story of life
I lose track of time, eternity lasts in a moment
The world around me seems to fade as another world comes alive
Right before me very eyes
This is my home, the familiar place I’ve come to know
It accepts me for me, and never brings me misery
I look back into the darkness and think just maybe this once
I’ll forget the responsibility and just have some fun
A long time later, and my cheeks hurt from grinning and laughing within
I find myself closing the end of my friend
He needs a good rest before his story begins again
I gently, ever so gently place him back in his spot
I have forgotten why the whole reason
As to why I had picked him up in the first place
He knew exactly what I needed. My eases have been calmed
I am ready to once again conquer my world.
And he will always be there right when I need him
He encourages me to not wait too long; he has more places to take me
I wave goodbye and send him off with a kiss
Until we meet again my love
Hot Tub Toes
Towel capes
Flying through the air.
Pitter-Patter of feet
Storming down the stairs.
The iron gate rattles,
Telling me to enter if I dare.
The beast is awoken deep beneath the surface.
The boiling water cackles.
Toes immerge.
They scream with pain.
I slowly dissolve
As the water,
Takes my breathe away.
Melting quickly as the warmth overcomes me;
Ease, Relaxed, the moment of pain has disappeared.
Here, I will stay until my toes become
Old and crinkly.
Chemistry
A single look into those vibrant, hazel eyes;
An entire world is changed.
Sun-kissed
Lips emanating sounds
Like a soft lullaby.
Tranced in the words of the melody.
Skins touch;
An icy, fire of shock runs through to my core.
A lasting bond is formed beneath the depths
Of the soul.
A voice in my head whispers,
This is the moment you’ve been waiting for.
“Angels lead you in. And if you were with me tonight
I’d sing to you, just one more time.”
Senses come alive.
A smile beams across our faces
And a tear forms in my eye.
Outstretched hearts,
That link in love.
A moment that starts the beginning.
Aw, precious. xoxo
